What is shot blasting?

Shot blasting, also known as sandblasting or media blasting, is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to roughen a smooth surface or remove surface contaminants like paint or corrosion. Compressed air is used to propel the blasting material (the media).

The first abrasive blasting process was patented by Benjamin Tilghman on 18 October 1870.

Metal finish masters use a crushed glass media which is available in several different grades and is made out of recycled glass. Other media is available on request if you have a specific job requirement.

Some garden furniture is wet painted from new some is powder coated. Either way they have to be shot blasted prior to being coated. This not only removes any old paint but cleans up any corrosion as well.

Wheels

Steel wheels are usually wet painted from the manufacturer so they are shot blasted before being powder coated. Alloy wheels are usually powder coated by the manufacture so require a chemically stripping method before shot blasting any corroded areas.
